County Fair A Success.
Large Crowds Attend the Best Fair Held in Wisconsin in 1903.
List of Premiums Awarded.
Notwithstanding the threatening weather of Thursday, a crowd of people numbering 29,500, paid admission to the grounds of the Dodge County Fair Association according to the statement of the Fair officials, thus eclipsing all previous “banner” days, weather and other conditions considered.
Not another Fair association in the state can show results like this, proving, more than ever, that the Dodge County Fair is year by year growing in popular favor, and is deep rooted and firmly implanted in the hearts and estimation of the people of the greatest county in the grandest state of the Union.
And all this has been brought about only through careful planning, good judgment and unceasing labor, due mostly to the able efforts and experience of Mr. C.W. Harvey, secretary of the Fair association.
Could the people of Dodge county, and the numerous outside patrons of the Fair, have a voice in the matter, “Chet” Harvey would today be heralded as the “Uncrowned King” of Fair promoters. Never has a secretary worked so hard; never has a secretary accomplished so much, limited means at his disposal considered, and never has a secretary of any agricultural society looked back upon the formation of his plans and seen them carried through to completion more successfully than has “Chet” Harvey.
As a visitor to the Dodge County Fair remarked Thursday, in the presence of a CITIZEN reporter:
“This is the greatest county fair that I have ever seen, and I believe I have attended hundreds, including those of nearly every state in this country. From the county fairs of the Down-East state of Maine, even to the extreme west, as well as those of the “Sunny South” and even North to the Canadian fairs. I have attended many good ones, but never the likes of this. They have done more than their share. Not content with the Fair and entertainment upon the grounds proper, entailing enormous expense, the Fair association, backed by the citizens, gives absolutely free to all a street entertainment in the evening, so grand, that it, in itself, far eclipses some fairs, and is far ahead of some so-called street fairs so widely advertised and heralded throughout the country. How they manage it I do not understand; but that they do it I am convinced from actual observation, and I am amazed. It seems to me that nothing short of an uncontrollable circumstance could prevent this Fair from proving each succeeding year in the future, as it has in the past, the greatest in exhibit and entertainment of any county fair in the Badger State.”
The Races.
