Danial Webster Ashbaugh, Sr.
The earliest known of the Ashbaugh ancestors is Daniel Webster Ashbaugh, Sr. Daniel and family appear on the 1830 Census in Holmes County, Ohio. Holmes County was formed in 1824 from portions of Coshocton, Tuscarawas and Wayne counties. The county seat is Millersburg.

The Censuses from 1840, 1850, 1860 place Daniel in Tuscarawas County, Ohio.

The 1850 Census is the first Federal Census to list names, ages and places of birth for each individual household member. Daniel’s place of birth is Maryland, according to the 1850 Census.

Daniel was married twice. First marriage was May 28, 1822 to Susanna Altman, who died in June 1836, after the birth of 8th child, Susanna (5/8/1836-6/10/1894).
Daniel was nicknamed Sr.

On September 20, 1838, Daniel married second wife, Christina Ann Little. They had 3 children together.

The discrepancy in this Census is that it does not include both female children under 5 years. Or if Susanna was 5yrs old, then it does not include Mary Ellen.
