In Memoriam.
Died in Lockport, August 12th, 1878, Mrs. Sarah A., wife of Wm J. Fickes, Esq., aged 24 years 8 months, and 6 days. Deceased was a daughter of Mr. William Ashbaugh, at whose residence she died. She left, besides her deeply bereaved husband, four infant children, and a large circle of friends to mourn her early demise. Mrs. Fickes was a woman of many excellent qualities, which greatly endeared her to those who had the advantage of her acquaintance. She was amiable, kind, confiding and intent on doing good according to her opportunities. She was a christian; having been received into the fellowship of the Lutheran Church by Dr. Steck, on the first Sabbath he spent in New Philadelphia in the spring of 1876. Her funeral, which was largely attended, occurred on the 14th inst., her pastor, Dr. Steck, officiating. The bereaved have the [illegible] consolation, in this case, that their loss is her gain.
A Friend.

Mr. Wm. Ashbaugh, one of the oldest residents of Blakes Mills, was agreeably surprised by his relatives and friends on April 27th, the occasion of his 71st birthday. Mr. Ashbaugh tells us the surprise was complete and that at no time did he suspect the intention of his friends. Mr. Ashbaugh while up in years, is as vigorous as a young man. He operates the Geo. Weider coal bank north of Blakes Mills, and often goes into the bank and digs coal himself. Friday he put out two tons. He has been a resident of Blakes Mills for 10 years, and all this time a subscriber of The Ohio Democrat.
