Above is from the Baby Book written by Marcus & Helen (Weidner) Limb, for their first child, Helen, outlining what they figured of the family lines. The sources of this information is not known.

The Weidner families in America date back to early colonial times in Pennsylvania. There are many Weidners and the families are complicated.

Family lines that go back in American history to the early days of the Colonies: Weidner, Reider, Griesemer and Schmidt (Smith) families from Germany, Van Buskirk from Holstein-Schleswig, Denmark (now Germany) and Hill family from England.

Weidner, Reider, Griesemer and families settled in Berks county, Pennsylvania, before moving west to eastern Ohio. The Schmidt (Smith) family settled in Chamburgsburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. The Hill family settled in Virginia initially, Richmond, then Culpeper, before moving west to eastern Ohio.

The immediately preceding generations are easily verifiable back to Peter Weidner and Rebecca Reider.

Weidner & Reider

The Weidner and Reider families came to America in early colonial days settling in Pennsylvania. In the biographical sketch of John W. Meredith below is a description of the 1836 move of Peter and Rebecca (Reider) and their children from Berks Co, Pennsylvania to Tuscarawas Co, Ohio:

John W. Meredith became Superintendent of the County Infirmary on December 5, 1905, as told on Page 6. On February 27, 1877, he married Miss Hannah A., daughter of Jeremiah and Susan Hill Weidner, who were married April 10, 1845. Jeremiah, born February 19, 1815, in Berks County, Pennsylvania, was the eldest son of the eight children of Peter and Rebeccah Reider Weidner, who were married March 27, 1803. Their children were: Hannah, Sarah, Jeremiah, Isaac died in infancy, Isaiah, Henry and Elizabeth and William who came to Nineveh, Tuscarawas County, in 1836. Peter Weidner was for many years a school teacher in Pennsylvania. He died in 1851 at the age of seventy-two years. His wife, Rebeccah, born December 9, 1783, died in 1865. Jeremiah was a cabinet maker in the East but followed farming in Goshen Township. From April 1, 1873, to April 1, 1877, he was superintendent of the Tuscarawass County Infirmary. He died December 7, 1889. Susan Hill who was born January 13, 1822, at Trenton, now Tuscarawas, and died March 6, 1889, was the daughter of Robert and Hannah Van Buskirk Hill. Robert Hill who died about 1830 was of the family of Jesse Hill who came to Tuscarawas County in 1806. Hannah Van Buskirk was born November 22, 1800, in Virginia, came with her parents to Tuscarawas at an early day, and died December 1, 1870. The children of Robert and Hannah Hill were: Susan, Solomon, Rachel, Isaac. The children of Jeremiah and Susan Hill Weidner are Emmaline J., deceased; Emma C., married to Frank M. Brown and deceased; Isaiah, deceased; Hannah A., born January 30, 1853; and George W., married to Estella Fickes. John W. and Hannah A. Meredith have one child, Florence, born January 7, 1878, and, on October 25, 1903, married to James, the son of Darius and Nettie Holcomb Nichols of Lorain County. Howard Meredith, the son of James and Florence Nichols, was born July 30, 1904.

This passage describes three generations of Weidners:

The Weidners moved from Berks county, Pennsylvania to Nineveh, Tuscarawas county, Ohio in 1836. The state of West Virginia did not exist until 1861, being admitted to the Union in 1863. The

Born in Germany on 1720 to Hans Adam Weidner and Anna Marie Haass. Lazarus married Elizabeth Yoder and had 10 children. Lazarus married Wendelia Eder. Lazarus married Vandelenah Ernst. He passed away on 1802 in Oley Township, Montgomery, Pennsylvania, USA.

Johann Adam and Hans Adam Weidner were brothers. Hans Adam died in Germany and was married to Anna Maria Haas. Johan Adam’s second wife, Catherine A came to America with her husband and settled in Oley Township. The had a son Lazarus Weidner born 1723 -1802. The Will read as follows:

In the name of God Amen
I Lazarus Weidner of Oley Township in the County of Berkshire and State of Pennsylvania, Being weak in Body, but of Sound and disposing Mind, in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Seven, Make and Ordain this my last Will and Testament in Manner and form Following, Viz.

1st. My Will is that my Body be Decently Buried, my Funeral expenses and all my Just debts paid, out of my Estate, by my Executors herein after Named;

2d. I give and Bequeath to Elizabeth Siesholtz (Daughter of John Siecholtz) Her Heirs and Assigns for ever, the sum of Fifteen pounds in Specie, the Same to be paid to her when she arrives to the age of Twenty one Years;

3d. I give and Bequeath to my Daughter Catharine Siesholtz, Her Heirs and Assigns for ever, the one equal Tenth part of my Estate, not before Bequeathed, or otherwise herein after directed; Which said Tenth, my will is shall remain in the Hands of my Executors Herein after named or the Survivor of them, in Trust, and to be administered in such manner and such times as to them shall seem most expedient;

4th. I give and Bequeath to my Son Abraham Weidner, His Heirs and assigns for ever the one other equal Tenth part of my estate, not before, Bequethed, or herein otherwise Directed;

5th. I give and Bequeath to my grand children the ?? of my Daughter Elizabeth Preiss [Price], Deceased and their heirs and assigns for ever, ?. Other equal Tenth part of my Estate not before Bequeathed, the same to be equally divided amongst them Share and Share alike;

7th. I give and Bequeath to my Daughter Susannah Yoder, Her Heirs and Assigns for ever, One other equal Tenth part of my Estate no before Bequeathed, as Afforesaid;

8th. I give and Bequeath to my Son Jacob Weidner, his Heirs and Assigns for ever, One other equal Tenth part of my Estate not before Bequeathed, or otherwise directed;

9th. I give and Bequeath to my Son Daniel Weidner, His Heirs and Assigns for Ever, my thirty Hour Clock, Together also with the One other Equal Tenth part of my estate not before Bequeathed;

Democratic Meeting.
On Saturday, the 11th inst. a meeting of the Democratic Citizens of Warwick Township, Lancaster County, will be held at the home of Peter Weidner, in the Village of Warwick, at one o’clock, in the afternoon, to take into consideration to present unhappy aspect of public affairs, pending the coming election of Governor of this Commonwealth, and of the President of the United States. It is hoped the attendance will be general.

Democratic County Convention.
Agreeably to the recommendation of the Democratic Committee of Correspondence of Lancaster County, the Delegates elected by the several Townships, Boroughs and Wards in the County; met at the house of Mrs. Eichholtz, in the City of Lancaster, on Wednesday, the 9th day of September, 1835, to discharge the duties assigned to them.
Capt. John Steele, of Leacock, was appointed President, and
Col. Samuel Morrison, of Drumore; Thomas Lloyd, Esquire, of Columbia; Jacob Geogh, of Marietta, Joel Lightner, of Leacock; Peter Filles, of Warwick; James Brown, of Colerain; Adam Kendig, of Conestoga, and Samuel E. Gundacker, City, Vice Presidents, and Col. Isaac Girvin, of Strasburg, and Dr. Abraham Bitner, of Washington, Secretaries.
On motion, the names of the Delegates were called, by Townships, and produced satisfactory evidence of their election, when it appeared, that one hundred and forty-one Delegates were chosen, representing every District in the County except Brecknock.

Democratic County Convention.
Saturday last being the day appointed for a County Convention, the delegates from the several townships met at the Court House in New Philadelphia.
The Convention was called to order by appointing Capt. John Brady President, Col. James McCue Vice President, and Charles H. Mitchener Secretary. The following delegates then appeared, and took their seats in the convention:

On motion it was resolved, that a committee of one from each township be appointed to report suitable candidates to be ballotted for by the convention. The committe retired, and after some time reported for Representative, three candidates, for Sheriff three, for Treasurer three, for Commissioner three, for Prosecuting Attorney one.
J.D. Cummins and S. Brainard having declined being candidates before the convention, the delegates then proceeded to ballot for the different candidates — each township being entitled to five votes. The votes being counted it appeared that for Representative David McConnell had 60 votes; Dr. R. Hewitt 5.
For Sheriff, John Tucker, 47, Jacob Kitch 7, Geo. Speaker 5.
For Treasurer, T.J. Frazier 53, Isaac Steese 6, John Steel Smith 1.
For Commissioner, John Dearth 43, Geo. Bugher 5, Benj. Blickensderfer 1.
For Prosecuting Attorney, James Craig 56.

Whereupon, the President declared David McConnell, John Tucker, Thomas J. Frazier, John Dearth and James Craig, duly nominated. On motion, the chair appointed John D. Cummins, F.D. Leonard, Mathias Collier, F.D. McMeal and Jacob Kitch, to act as a central committee for the ensuing year.
On motion it was resolved, that the proceedings of this convention he signed by the officers of the meeting and published in the Ohio Democrat.

Now Is The Time
In a few weeks Congress and the State Legislature meets, and all those who want the proceedings of each, the regular debates, and set speeches, had better subscribe for this paper. We are making arrangements to give them more ample and regular, than has been done by any paper heretofore printed in the county. The agitation of a national bank at Washington, and the reformation of the Ohio banks at Columbus, deeply interest every man, and should be well understood. And the means of information can be had for $1.75 in advance. To persons who do not wish to become regular subscribers, we will furnish the Democrat 6 months from the 1st of December, for 87 cts, or 3 months for 50 cts. In addition to the Legislative news, our paper will contain much other interesting matter that will help to pass away the long winter evenings.
We ask our friends in the county to make known the above terms to their neighbors. Names left with the following persons, shall be promptly attended to:
